The Diplomat

The Ambassador for a day competition, presented for the second year running by the British Embassy, is open until 10 November. The aim of the competition is to bring diplomacy closer to young women and to promote female leadership among them.

If you are between 16 and 18 years old and are interested in knowing what the day-to-day life of a female diplomat is like, this is your chance to find out by taking part in the competition.

Given the success of the first edition, where 500 girls from all over Spain applied, the number of places this year has been increased from 5 to 15. The winners will be able to visit the British Embassy in Madrid in February next year and see from the inside how a diplomatic mission works, as well as participating in many other activities.

The role of young people in peace-building is the central theme of this year’s competition. World peace has been threatened in recent years, whether by armed conflict, growing inequality or climate change.

To take part in the competition, participants must write a text in English or Spanish about how they would promote peace in today’s world and submit it via this link.

The names of the winners will be announced during the month of December after their candidatures have been assessed by a panel made up of representatives from the British Embassy.

The prize for this new edition will include

1.- A 2-day programme in Madrid for 15 winners, with various workshops on interpersonal skills, diplomacy and leadership practices given by experts in the field.

2.- Meet the British Embassy team to explore the breadth of activities in which a diplomat participates.

3.- Opportunity to meet ambassadors and institutions from different countries over lunch.

4.- Digital and media activity.

The British Ambassador to Spain, Hugh Elliott, encourages participation with a video in which he challenges interested young women to imagine that they are global leaders seeking to end injustice.

The Terms and Conditions of the competition can be consulted here, as well as the registration form. If you have any questions, the Embassy has set up this email address Ambassadorforadayspain@fcdo.gov.uk.
