The president of CEOE International, Marta Blanco, has received in her office the new ambassador of Turkey in Spain, Nüket Küçükel Ezberci, who explained to her the priorities of her Embassy in economic matters for the coming months.
The ambassador, who was accompanied by the main advisor of the Investment Office of the Presidency of Turkey, Yasemen Korukcu; and through the commercial counselor of the Embassy, Nazli Onat, she was able to learn from Marta Blanco about the activity of the Spanish employers’ association and, in turn, explained the main priorities and lines of work of the diplomatic representation in the coming months. Likewise, she highlighted the importance of initiatives related to female empowerment at the international level.
According to CEOE, at the meeting, held last Monday, the need to continue promoting bilateral economic and business relations was highlighted and priority sectors were identified, such as textiles, automotive, energy, agriculture and food security. and, especially, the defense and security industry, given the current geopolitical context.
Both parties also agreed to highlight the role of the two countries as a gateway to other areas (Latin America, in the case of Spain; the Balkans, in that of Turkey) and the opportunities for business cooperation that open up in these markets.
Finally, they reviewed the collaboration with the Investment Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, as well as with the Turkish business organizations DEIK and TUSIAD and analyzed possible future joint actions between the Embassy of Turkey and CEOE.
Last year there was an increase in bilateral trade figures between Spain and Turkey. Thus, Spanish exports to Turkey reached 6,777 million euros, 23% more than in 2021, and imports from Turkey reached 9,989 million, with an increase of 20%.
Regarding investment, Spain’s investment stock in Turkey in 2021 stood at 3,913 million euros and was concentrated in the banking services, textile industry, insurance and automotive auxiliary industry sectors. For its part, Turkey’s investment stock in Spain was 99 million, especially in wholesale trade, real estate activities, construction and consulting.
