The play Cabezas del cartel, by the company Perigallo Teatro, comes to the Teatro del Barrio until 1 October, after a three-year tour in which the production has won the Godoff 2022 Award for Best Show of the Independent Circuit of Madrid, the Audience Award of the International Theatre Festival of Badajoz 2022 and several categories in Indifest 2021.
The plot is born in theatrical territory, it even has some autofiction, but it can be extrapolated to any other field: a theatre company is in the middle of a work session. They are preparing a performance that talks about being free by doing the right thing. However, they live through a critical moment in which ethical principles will be confronted with the need to feel important.
Because we all feel the need to be important. The glare dazzles us. And Perigallo decides that, with this montage, they have no choice but to laugh at it, because the ridicule we make is so ridiculous. Moreover, fame is a powerful cultural magnet: why do productions with well-known names, with stars whose behaviour we even copy on a daily basis, perform better at the box office? The play examines this question without any hot air for anyone: why has part of the public been lost along the way, why have artists who are not so highly rated in the theatre industry been made invisible in their eyes? This glitz often makes us forget what our values are and what our priorities are. A lot of posing and little posing. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
