The General Secretariat of the Andean Community (CAN), Telefónica Hispanoamérica and Fundación Telefónica have signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement to promote digital education for women in rural or vulnerable areas of the Andean region.
As announced in mid-July by the signatory entities and the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, the objective of the agreement is to design, execute and disseminate initiatives related to inclusive connectivity projects, digital education with a gender focus and the provision of digital skills to improve the employability conditions for women. These initiatives will be developed in rural or vulnerable areas of the Andean region.
The event was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Andean Community in Lima, with the participation of the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Transport and Communications. Peru exercises the pro tempore presidency of the CAN.
Diego Caicedo, Secretary General of the Andean Community, stressed that the agreement will contribute to reducing the digital gender gap in the region and will strengthen the autonomy and economic empowerment of women in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
For his part, Mario Coronado, Director of Public Affairs at Telefónica Hispam and delegate of the Telefónica Foundation, indicated that this agreement “marks a starting point in deepening work together with the CAN, on issues such as digital and social inclusion , which are the heart of the work we do at Telefónica Hispanoamérica».
