Casa Asia (Calle Mayor, 69) and the Embassy of Kazakhstan are organising next Friday at 11 am the lecture Great Personalities of the Kazakh Steppe: Abay Kunanbayev (1845-1904), who stood out as a scientist, thinker, poet, translator and composer.
Through his work, we will delve into the Kazakh identity and learn about the rich traditions, language and spirit of the Kazakh people. Admission is free with prior registration at this link.
Emilio de Miguel, director of the Casa Asia Centre-Madrid, will give a welcoming speech, together with Danat Mussayev, ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the speech will be given by José Luis Yzaguirre, academic and director of the Diplomacy and Civil Society Forum, Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country.
Abay Kunanbayev was a prominent Kazakh poet, philosopher and thinker of the 19th century. He was born on 10 August 1845 in the Semey region of what is now Kazakhstan. Abay became an influential figure in Kazakh literature and culture, and his legacy endures to this day. Abay was an advocate of Kazakh cultural revival and a fervent promoter of education and intellectual emancipation of his people. His literary works, which include poetry, prose and essays, reflect his love for his homeland and his commitment to social justice. Abay addressed themes such as national identity, equality, freedom and the importance of preserving Kazakh language and culture. Abay Kunanbayev remains a revered figure in Kazakhstan and his legacy continues to be a source of inspiration and wisdom for the Kazakh people.
