Casa de México in Madrid (Calle de Alberto Aguilera, 20) presents the book Mexico. La novela, with the presence of the author, Pedro Ángel Palou, and the publisher Miryam Galaz.
Capital of empires, city of palaces, cosmopolitan metropolis, but also victim of the ravages of nature. There is no end to its tragedies. But neither are its great moments, which have seen emperors crowned, armies cheered and portentous buildings erected. Four families have seen and suffered it all, each with its long genealogy of lies, dreams and sorrows.
In this novel, it is their members who reveal the countless secrets of Mexico City. Pedro Ángel Palou recreates with spectacular precision the epic history of a mythical city, from the fall of Tenochtitlan to the 1985 earthquake, and of the curse that has condemned it to rise again and again to make amends for its mistakes.
Pedro Ángel Palou is the author of forty books, including Amores enormes (Jorge Ibargüengoitia Prize), Con la muerte en los puños (Xavier Villaurrutia Prize), En la alcoba de un mundo, Paraíso clausurado, Malheridos, La Casa de la Magnolia, Demasiadas vidas, and the historical novels dedicated to Zapata, Morelos and Cuauhtémoc. He has received several honorary doctorates in Latin America and holds a PhD in Social Sciences from the Colegio de Michoacán, as well as being a visiting professor at the Sorbonne, Paris V René Descartes, the Universidad Iberoamericana and Dartmouth College.
