The Spanish government yesterday reproached Israel for building new housing in West Bank settlements, recalling that this practice is contrary to international law.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after Benjamin Netanyahu’s government announced on Monday that it will build 5,700 new homes in West Bank settlements, the Spanish government expressed its rejection of this measure, while condemning “the violence carried out by the settlers”.
“Settlements are contrary to international law, are an obstacle to peace and hinder the materialisation of the two-state solution, the only possible response to the legitimate national aspirations of Palestinians and Israelis,” the communiqué stresses.
