The King and Sanchez to receive Boric on 14 July, in the middle of election campaign

The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, will arrive in Madrid on 13 July and will be received the following day by His Majesty the King and the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez.

Boric, who assumed the Presidency of Chile in March 2022, had not been able to make any trips to Spain since then, and in recent months his team negotiated with the Spanish authorities so that he could make a working visit in July, taking advantage of the fact that he has to travel to Brussels for the EU-CELAC Summit, scheduled for 17 and 18, precisely under the Spanish Presidency.

Thus, the Chilean leader will have the opportunity to meet Sánchez, who will be immersed in the general election campaign, at Moncloa on 14 July, and will go to the Zarzuela Palace, where the King will offer him lunch.

Don Felipe was criticised by Boric, who called it “unacceptable” that his inauguration ceremony as president of Chile was delayed because the monarch arrived late for the ceremony. Subsequently, the Chilean government apologised for these statements, indicating that Boric had been misinformed about what had happened and that the King had followed Chile’s protocol and security instructions at all times in order to gain access to the National Congress, where the ceremony was taking place. In any case, the two countries put the incident to rest.

During his stay in Madrid, Boric will also attend the headquarters of the CEOE, where he will chair a Spanish-Chilean business meeting.

Boric has a special relationship with the second vice-president, Yolanda Díaz, who was present at his inauguration and who heads the Sumar candidacy for the general elections, so it is not out of the question that they could meet at some point.
