On the occasion of the International Day of the Romanian Blouse, the Instituto Rumano de Cultura is holding a conference at its headquarters (Plaza del Cordón, 1) next Friday 23rd at 7 p.m. on the IA (Romanian blouse), a heritage element of the Romanian trousseau.
The event will be given by Menut Maximinian, PhD student at the Babes-Bolyai Cluj University and president of the Bistrita-Nasaud Writers’ Society.
The Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, a tradition usually celebrated on 24 June, has a special and complex meaning: to celebrate the feast of St. John and the beginning of summer. This type of blouse, a traditional garment with designs inspired by rural life, bears particular motifs, specific to each region of Romania, but is also found in other countries in that part of Europe. It is famous among art lovers thanks to the painting of the same name by Henri Matisse.
