This evening at 8 p.m., the Instituto Francés of Madrid welcomes the ensemble El Gran Teatro del Mundo for the concert La vida es sueño. Experts of French baroque music, the musicians will play a diverse and vibrant programme.
The ensemble takes its name from the play of the same name by Calderón de la Barca, based on the baroque topos of the Theatrum Mundi. In it, a world is allegorically represented in which everyone plays a role with the conviction of those who believe they were born to do so, and which becomes inseparable from their own person. Drawing a parallel, one arrives at the conception of the musician as an actor at the service of the music, but whose interpretation, far from being artificial, is rooted in his most honest emotions.
The ensemble, under the direction of Julio Caballero Pérez, specialises in French baroque, although its programmes include repertoires from 17th century German to the classical repertoire. Reservations for this concert can be made through this link.
