Attracting investment from Spanish companies that want to participate in the modernisation of Genoa’s infrastructures is the objective of its mayor, Marco Bucci, who on Friday explained, during a press conference at the Italian Consulate in Madrid, his plans to make this Italian city the “gateway to the southern Mediterranean”.
Bucci, after recalling the numerous historical, cultural, artistic and economic ties between Spain and Italy, encouraged Spanish companies to participate in the project, to which 10,000 million euros will be allocated over the next five years. The aim is to build a series of infrastructures, such as a new dock for the port, an underwater tunnel and a metro line, among others. All this, he said, will be financed with funds from the Italian state and the European Union.
The Mayor of Genoa, accompanied by the Italian Ambassador in Spain, Giuseppe Buccino, indicated that he wants his proposal to serve to boost relations between the two countries on a commercial, industrial and business level.
From 24 June to 2 July, Genoa will host the final leg of the Ocean Race, which started in Alicante, a city with which he has many ties. Bucci expressed his satisfaction at hosting an “extremely important” event which demonstrates the importance of sport for the city. Thanks to this event, said the mayor, “we will make the city be perceived as an international city with an excellent quality of life”.
