The British Government is looking for Spanish teachers and has just launched, through the British Council, an offer of direct grants of 10,000 pounds (more than 11,500 euros) for foreign students who want to train in the United Kingdom as primary and secondary school teachers of Spanish.

The British authorities have taken this initiative in an attempt to respond to the growing demand for Spanish teachers in the UK.

A study by the British Council, the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, shows that 24 per cent of British people consider it more important than ever to learn a language and that one in four want to learn Spanish in particular.

The aim of the grant is to provide financial support to overseas students who wish to work in educational establishments in the UK, so that they can cover travel and relocation costs, as well as visa costs and immigration health surcharges for students.

The call for applications will open in autumn 2023 and will be available on the UK Government’s website. To be eligible, students must have a place on a PGCE in England for the 2023-2024 academic year, hold a visa and have moved to the country in the three months prior to the start of the course.
