The ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Spain, Omar Obaid Mohamed Alhesan Alshamsi, has not seen his work routine altered despite the violent robbery he suffered on April 30 in Madrid, according to the newspaper ABC.

The head of the Emirati mission went to El Escorial yesterday on a working visit, according to diplomatic sources, who assured The Diplomat that the ambassador and his family are well despite the fact that the assault was very violent.

Ambassador Alshamsi has recently arrived in Spain, having been appointed by his government last December to replace Majid Hassan Mohamed Al Suwaidi. In fact, he has not yet presented his Letters of Credence to King Felipe VI after submitting his Copies to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January of this year.

As described by ABC newspaper, the diplomat, his wife and his minor daughter were walking down the street of Don Ramón de la Cruz, in the heart of the Salamanca neighborhood, when two individuals on a motorcycle, possibly belonging to the ‘Rolex gang’, stopped next to them and pointed a gun at them.

The ambassador tried to protect his wife and daughter and, when confronted by the robbers, they beat him before taking the jewelry and a Rolex watch worth 25,000 euros.

A representative of the legation filed a complaint a few hours after the incident with the National Police, which is investigating the incident, according to this newspaper.
