The Spanish technology multinational Indra has delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) three transportable air traffic management and control systems that will strengthen its capacity for rapid deployment and airspace management anywhere in the world.
As reported by the company on Monday, Indra’s systems will manage approach and en-route air traffic and provide the RAAF with a critical deployment capability to safely support incoming flights in the event that the air traffic management infrastructure is not in place or has been damaged in a war or natural disaster. The contract includes maintenance work on the systems for five years.
Indra has delivered deployable radars and air traffic management systems to some of the world’s most advanced air forces, including those of Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Spain, among others. It is also one of the world’s leading suppliers of air traffic systems, with systems supplied to 180 countries.
Also, according to the company, Indra is one of the world’s leading radar manufacturers. It is working on the evolution of the Eurofighter radar and has delivered one of the most advanced space surveillance radars currently in operation in Europe. Its deployable 3D Lance radar (included in two of the three systems sold to Australia) is a favorite of NATO, which has consistently chosen it in all tenders issued over the past fifteen years.
“This solution will replace the Air Force’s previous capability and provide greater flexibility and deployment options, delivering significant improvements in airspace management and deployed airfields,” said Tehmur Khan Galindo, Indra’s managing director in Australia. “The achievement demonstrates Indra’s commitment to the Australian market and to the delivery of mission critical systems to Australia through continued collaboration between Indra and the Australian Defence Force,” he added.
