The Embassy of Slovakia informs about the concert of the renowned Slovak organist Monica Melcová, who will perform tomorrow Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Church of San Antonio de los Alemanes in Madrid (Calle de la Puebla, 22). The concert is part of the Festival Internacional de Órgano San Antonio de los Alemanes 2023. Tickets can be purchased before the concert in the foyer of the church for €10.

Monica Melcová started playing music at the age of 5. After studying piano and organ in her native country, she enters the University of Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna, where she studies organ with Michael Radulescu, finishing with the Magistra Artium degree with Honourable Mention and the Award of Excellence of the Austrian Federal Government. She then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris as part of the Advanced Cycle, where she was taught by Olivier Latry and Michel Bouvard, and received a scholarship from the Meyer Foundation and the Musical Patronage of the Société Genérale. The Nadia et Lili Boulanger International Foundation also awarded her a scholarship to study improvisation at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon under the direction of Loïc Mallié.

The Slovak pianist has successfully participated in several competitions: Diploma of Honour at the Bruges Festival (1997), Public Prize at the Žilina Festival (1998), Special Prize at the UNESCO Competition in Lisbon (2000). In 2002/03 she was appointed organist in residence at the Sapporo Concert-Hall (Japan) as a concert organist and teacher, giving recitals in the main concert halls of the country. She has regularly been invited as a member of the jury of the international competitions “Grand Prix de Chartres”, Concours de l’orgue de Luxembourg, among others.

Currently, Monica Melcová teaches improvisation at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco “Musikene” in San Sebastian and organ at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In 2021 she recorded a documentary with Schuch Production for the ARTE channel “Chercheurs d’Orgues”.
