Next Wednesday at 8 p.m., the Instituto Francés in Madrid will be previewing the film Los tres mosqueteros: d’Artagnan (The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan), a new version of the work by Alexandre Dumas, directed by Martin Bourboulon and starring Eva Green, Vincent Cassel, Vicky Krieps, Louis Garrel, François Civil and Romain Duris in their leading roles.
Since its publication 178 years ago, The Three Musketeers has remained one of the world’s most famous and best-loved adventure novels. Through its iconic characters, from d’Artagnan, Athos, Aramis and Porthos, to Cardinal Richelieu and his spy Milady de Winter, the novel has permeated popular culture. The values of loyalty and companionship embodied by the heroes of this story have contributed to the dissemination of the work through the ages and generations.
