The Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan), through the Center for Chinese Studies (CCS), is once again launching a call for grants for foreign professors and scholars to conduct research projects in Taiwan in 2024, focusing on topics related to Taiwan or sinology studies in general.

The programme is aimed at full professors, associate professors or assistant professors (including post-doctoral researchers) and PhD candidates in Chinese studies-related departments at foreign universities, as well as researchers from related foreign academic institutes.

The research stay in Taiwan can extend from a minimum of one month to one year. The financial grant provided by CCS covers travel and research expenses.

For travel, the CCS will provide a direct economy class round-trip airfare from the researcher’s home to Taipei for those residing abroad. Travel expenses will be reimbursed upon arrival in Taiwan. The research grant will be divided into four levels: full professors (including postdoctoral researchers); associate professors; assistant professors; and doctoral candidates. The CCS will determine the amount of the research grants and an advisory committee will decide on any possible adjustments.

Interested applicants must apply by 31 May of the current year and, together with the application form, must send their curriculum vitae (with list of publications), a research plan and one or more letters of recommendation. The result will be made public at the end of August of the current year. To obtain the application form and consult the terms and conditions of the call for applications, please visit the website of the Centre for Chinese Studies.

The Centre for Chinese Studies, established in 1981 under the Ministry of Education of Taiwan, focuses on promoting research in Sinology studies, both in Taiwan and abroad, and facilitating communication and exchange between academic institutions and centres around the world.
