Grigory Sokolov, known as The Titan of the Piano, returns to the Ciclo de Grandes Intérpretes organised by the Fundación Scherzo in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música on Monday 27 February at 19:30, in what will be his twenty-fourth participation in the 28 editions of this cycle.
The Russian pianist, a naturalised Spanish citizen, presents his programme 2023, which on this occasion is dedicated to the music of Henry Purcell – with a whole first part of short works, suites, chaconnes, songs or rounds, typical of the English Baroque – and a second part dedicated to the music of Mozart, with the Sonata nº13 in B flat major, KV 333 (315c), op.7 and the Adagio in B minor, KV 540. This is an unusual repertoire, which makes this evening unique, as it is rare to see a pianist of his stature devote half of a concert to keyboard works by Henry Purcell.
This concert joins the celebrations for the centenary of the birth of Alicia de Larrocha – to whom this cycle is dedicated – which will be followed by recitals by Piotr Anderszewski (March 14th), Javier Perianes (April 18th), Seong-Jin Cho (May 30th) and Arcadi Volodos (June 27th). Tickets for next Monday’s concert can be purchased here.
