The Diplomat
The Ambassador of Italy, Riccardo Guariglia, presented last Wednesday, in a ceremony held at the Italian Embassy, the insignia of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic to the illustrious Spanish jurist Miguel Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón.
De Miñón was one of the fathers of the current Spanish Constitution of 1978, which was also inspired by the Italian Constitutional Charter. During his long career he was a lecturer at various Spanish and foreign universities, dealing in particular with the legal organisation of the political transition in Spain after the end of Franco’s regime. On 6 October, Professor Miguel Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón delivered the laudatio to the President Emeritus of the Italian Constitutional Court, Giuliano Amato, on the occasion of Amato’s induction as an Honorary Academician of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences of Spain.
Professor Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón is a figure of absolute academic importance,” said Ambassador Guariglia, who enjoys great prestige in Spain and abroad. This decoration, awarded by the President of the Italian Republic, is a recognition of his work and his important contribution to the development of democratic values, as well as to the Italian-Spanish friendship, especially in the legal-constitutional field”.
