The Government of Bolivia is going to present a complaint before the Spanish Executive for the “interference” of Vox MP Víctor González Coello de Portugal in the Bolivian national sovereignty, specifically for having traveled to the Andean country to denounce the detention of an opposition leader.

As reported by the local press, and picked up by the Europa Press agency, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, Benjamín Blanco, announced his government’s intention to file the complaint after the Spanish MP visited, together with the Chilean Luis Fernando Sánchez, the Santa Cruz police command, where both made statements in which they criticized the police action in which the regional governor Luis Fernando Camacho was arrested in connection with the events of 2019 that led to the departure of Evo Morales from the Presidency.

“Lending these statements to the media is a clear act of meddling that is unacceptable for our country in internal affairs,” stated Blanco, who recalled that the United Nations Charter stipulates that “no country is authorized to intervene in matters that are essentially of internal jurisdiction of the States.” For this reason, “from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the corresponding channels, we will make the corresponding claims both to the Chilean Government and to the Government of Spain for the conduct of these MPs in national territory”.
