The Diplomat
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a selection process for next year to fill 30 new diplomatic posts, two of which will be reserved for people with a general disability of 33% or more.
The announcement of this competition was published on 31 December in the Official State Gazette, where the conditions for applying for the selection process are indicated. The first phase of the competition will be based on the competitive examination system, which may not last longer than eight months. The thirty candidates chosen at the end of this first phase will then take a practical course at the Diplomatic School.
Compared to recent years, the number of places available is slightly lower, as 34 places were available for the 2021 promotion and 37 for the 2022 promotion (although the two places for people with disabilities were not filled).
Spain currently has around a thousand diplomats, around 30 percent of whom are women.
The 74th promotion of members of the Diplomatic Service, corresponding to the year 2022, was the first to include more women than men (21 versus 14).
In his Twitter account, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, announced the call for applications and encouraged “all those with a passion for international relations, diplomacy and a vocation for public service” to apply.
He also pointed out that the work of a diplomat is diverse and enriching, and added that the diplomatic career “must be an inclusive career, representing the diversity of Spanish society, and also egalitarian“. In this regard, she expressed her satisfaction at the fact that more and more women are taking the competitive examinations and that the latest promotions are equal.
