The Spain-India Council Foundation (FCEI) has presented a broad Action Plan for 2023, a year that, according to the institution, will be “special” for relations between the two countries due to, among other factors, the possible trip of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to the Asian country.
The Areces Foundation hosted in the middle of this month the last meeting of the Board of Trustees in 2022, headed by the president of the Spain-India Council Foundation, Juan Ignacio Entrecanales, and by the new secretary general of the institution, Ramón María Moreno.
Representing the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ángeles Moreno, was the Director General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Javier Salido, who gave an analysis of the state of bilateral relations and the Government’s forecasts for India. The Spanish Ambassador to India, José María Ridao, also participated via videoconference.
According to the FCEI, 2023 is presented as “a special year for relations between the two countries and, therefore, for the Spain-India Council Foundation”. On the one hand, the international political agenda and economic forecasts “augur an increase in India’s weight on the international stage”. Likewise, the Indian presidency of the G-20 and “the foreseeable and expected trip of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to the Asian country will facilitate new contacts and opportunities,” added the Fundación Consejo.
In line with this reality, the Spain-India Council Foundation has proposed “a broad Action Plan for the coming year” that “covers all areas of interest” and includes seminars, practical guides for bilateral cooperation, articles, interviews and high-level meetings. “Undoubtedly, the greatest relevance will be given to the recently created Spain-India Observatory, the participatory platform for information, debate and analysis that gives continuity to the important work carried out through the Spain-India 2020 Report,” it added.
