Casa de México surprises once again with its Mexican Christmas 2022
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Until 8 January 2023, the Fundación Casa de México is exhibiting its Mexican Christmas 2022, with the aim of surprising visitors once again this year with a monumental nativity scene of popular art in embossed tinplate.

The stairs of the Foundation once again serve as a stage to showcase Mexican traditions, on this occasion a nativity scene in the technique of embossing from the workshops of Luis Piña, Jesús Piña and Raimundo Amescua from the State of Mexico and designed by Cristina Faesler and Mateo Holmes.

The Christmas festivity took root in Mexico in the 16th century, when European friars introduced Catholicism to the indigenous cultures. Mexican nativity scenes are made with a remarkable diversity of materials, according to the culture, natural resources and environment of each region.

A nativity scene made of sheet metal that simulates a landscape with a mirrored sky on both sides, which makes the landscape infinite, is complemented by a monumental Christmas tree. Through the light that enters and is reflected by the mirrors, they achieve the sensation of amplitude in the space, giving more brightness to the whole installation.
