Spain and Cape Verde will have, for the first time, a direct air link between the cities of Malaga and Praia, the capital of the African country.
The announcement was made in an interview on Cadena SER by the sub-delegate of the Government in Malaga, Javier Salas, who recently held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration of Cape Verde, Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, and the Ambassador to Spain, Ney Cardoso.
Salas told Europa Press that “this is a historic milestone in relations between Spain and Cape Verde, which will have a direct air link through Malaga’s Costa del Sol airport”.
The sub-delegate added that Cape Verde is a country “with significant growth prospects, not only in terms of tourism, but also in the new technologies sector”.
In his opinion, “it is also an important incentive for the different Spanish companies that already have projects underway in the African country or that may be interested in developing investments in Cape Verde”. “And this link from Spain will be through Malaga airport, whereas until now it had to be via Lisbon”, he added.
The flights will be operated by the German company Eurowings, starting in April, twice a week.
Cape Verde has been promoting business activity focused on new technologies for years with the creation of its own technology park and, in fact, has already contacted Málaga TechPark for advice.
In addition to this, there is interest from Malaga companies such as the Ubago canning company, which has a tuna processing factory in the country.
Cape Verde “is growing a lot in terms of tourism”, and Spanish hotel chains such as Riu and Meliá already have establishments in the country.
