The Madrid City Council, the Jewish Community of Madrid and Centro Sefarad-Israel are organising tomorrow Wednesday at 6 p.m. the celebration of the Festival of Lights, the Hanukkah, in the Plaza de la Villa in Madrid, a big party with music, dances, typical sweets, tea and the lighting of the third Hanukkah candle.
The Feast of Lights, which commemorates the miracle that occurred at the rededication of the Second Temple when a lamp with oil for one day remained lit for eight, is one of the most important festivals in the Jewish calendar.
The celebration will feature a performance of the Maoz Tzur by Daniel Shay and traditional dances by the Trotadanzas group. In addition, there will be a special performance by the singer Orovega. The traditional sweet of this festival, sufganiot, will be distributed among the public. Free entrance until full capacity is reached.
