Author: Leïla Slimani.
The Instituto Francés presents a dramatised reading in the Sala de Cristal of the Teatros del Canal in Madrid tomorrow Thursday at 6 p.m., in which the author Leïla Slimani will present her latest work published in Spain, El perfume de las flores de la noche (Le parfum des fleurs la nuit). Admission is free after collecting a reserved invitation by clicking on this link.
This book is a text about the disappearance of the beautiful, the splendour of the ephemeral and, therefore, the urgency of enjoying it. When leaving the museum, at dawn, all that remains is the trace of the fleetingness of the night, the memory of the scent of flowers and this book. Translated into Spanish by Malika Embarek López, it is also a discreet dialogue, impregnated with a sweet melancholy, with her childhood in Morocco, with her deceased father.
Leïla Slimani was born in Rabat (Morocco) in 1981. Her first novel, Dans le jardin de l’ogre (2014), received unanimous critical acclaim. Chanson douce, her second novel, consolidated her literary career by winning the 2016 Goncourt Prize. In 2017, his controversial essay Sexe et mensonges : La vie sexuelle au Maroc was published and in 2020, Le pays des autres, the first part of an autobiographical novel trilogy inspired by his family. In Le parfum des fleurs la nuit she talks about the creative process of his writing. In February 2022 she published in France Regardez-nous danser, the second part of the trilogy Le pays des autres. She is currently the French representative on the Conseil de la Francophonie, a regular contributor to the daily Le Monde and a committed human rights activist.
