Next Thursday, December 15th, at 19.30, La Filarmónica stages its Christmas Concert at the Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid, in which Bach’s Christmas Oratorio will be performed, undoubtedly one of the most moving and beautiful musical versions of the Christmas mystery that has ever been written.
The concert will feature the Windsbach Boys’ Choir, a benchmark in the performance of this composer, and the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, a highly prestigious ensemble in the performance of early music with historicist criteria. In this concert they will offer Cantatas 1, 3 and 6, which will be conducted by Ludwig Böhme.
Composed between 1734 and 1735, this Oratorio is inspired by the Gospels according to Luke and Matthew and extends from the birth of Jesus to the adoration of the Magi, including the announcement of the angels and the adoration of the shepherds. Comprising six cantatas, this great Christmas fresco was intended to be performed in the church of St. Thomas in Leipzig, where Bach was Cantor, between Christmas Day and Epiphany. Tickets can be purchased here.
