“Thailand can be a very reliable partner for Spain and the European Union in the Indo-Pacific region,” said the Chargé d’Affaires of the Asian country, Pongprach Makchang, during the celebration of World Soil Day, which is celebrated every December 5 in honor of the late King Bhumibol, the “Father of the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy.”
The king “was loved and admired by all Thais for his work and dedication to serving the nation throughout his seventy years on the throne,” explained Makchang, who added that, in particular, one of the highlights of his reign was “his work on the development of soil resources.”
Thailand is also commemorating this year the 152nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Spain. Makchang pointed out, in this regard, that in 2022 “our relations have made remarkable progress in various fields”, in addition to the political consultations that both foreign ministries carried out “successfully” last June.
Among other events developed throughout the year that is ending, the Thai diplomat reviewed the numerous events that the Embassy has organized on business, science and technology, in addition to screenings of Thai films, gastronomic presentations and Thai language courses, so he was satisfied that “our relations have progressed significantly in all these areas”.
In view of Spain’s upcoming presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2023, Pongprach Makchang expressed his confidence that over the next year “even more can be done in the context of the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy”.
