The Diplomat
Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Madrid Burak Akçapar presented last Friday the Letter of Credence to UNWTO Secterary General Zurab Pololikashvili, formally accrediting this diplomatic delegation as the Permanent Representation of Turkiye to the UNWTO and Ambassador Burak Akçapar as its first Permanent Representative.
Turkey has been a full member to the Organization since 1975. “As a founding member of UNWTO, says the statement issued by the Turkish Embassy, Turkey has assumed important roles in the past including through Committee Memberships and Vice Presidency of the Regional Commission for Europe. Turkey has also been participating actively in the Executive Council since 2019 and has placed her bid to be reelected to the Executive Council for one of the seats provided for Europe in the period 2023-2027.”
The communiqué concludes by stressing that “Turkey promotes the values embodied by the UNWTO. In this sense, the relationship between tourism and development that is underlined by the UNWTO within the scope of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals is also shared by Turkey.”
