This afternoon at 5 p.m. (reception of attendees from 4 p.m.), in the Assembly Hall of the Ateneo de Madrid, the book China is back to stay, by Marcelo Muñoz, will be presented. The book could be entitled “what the Chinese think about their country”, because in each chapter they express their analysis and assessment of the Empire that was, how it was and why it fell, its galloping development in recent decades, its keys and shortcomings, and above all, China’s role in today’s world, in the international community, in the face of the United States and the EU, and in the pending confrontation or global governance. And what “they” think coincides very little with what is thought and written about China in the West. And much will be written in the coming days on the occasion of the Chinese Communist Party Congress.
The guests of honour will be the ambassadors of the European Union in China, Jorge Toledo; of the P. R. China in Spain, Wu Haitao, and of Spain in the P. R. China, Rafael Dezcallar, together with Rosa Cervera, president of Cátedra China.
A round table discussion will be held under the title China as a great power of the 21st century, the guiding theme of the entire book, with the participation of José Luis R. Zapatero, former Prime Minister of Spain; Ana de Palacio, former Minister of Foreign Affairs; Antonio Garrigues, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain; Antonio Garrigues, President of the Fundación Garrigues; José Sanroma, Europeanist Group of the Athenaeum, and Marcelo Muñoz, author of the book. The event will be moderated by Ramón María Calduch, Vice-President of Cátedra China, who will summarise the comments and questions received via chat.
