The Diplomat
Last Tuesday the Commemoration Ceremony of the Memorial Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the Embassy of the Caucasian country, with a large presence of the Azerbaijani community living in Spain.
In his speech, Azerbaijani Ambassador Ramiz Hasanov stressed that two years have passed since the beginning of the counter-offensive measures launched by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to prevent the subsequent “military provocation” by the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia in 2020.
“The Patriotic War, in the Ambassador’s words, put an end to Armenia’s 30-year aggression against Azerbaijan, guaranteed the territorial integrity of our country and restored the fundamental rights of one million of our compatriots. Azerbaijan itself ensured the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions adopted in 1993.” “The victory achieved with the bravery of the Azerbaijani Army, the ambassador continued, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Ilham Aliyev, opened a new stage in the History of the Republic of Azerbaijan; it restored international justice; the region entered a new era of stability and development.”
Finally, the ambassador drew attention to “the massive installation of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines on Azerbaijani territory; to the deliberate destruction and appropriation of Azerbaijan’s historical, cultural and religious heritage; to the plundering of natural resources; and to the vandalism perpetrated in our cities. The Government of Azerbaijan, which is carrying out restoration and reconstruction work in our liberated territories, takes steps to ensure the safe and dignified return of nearly one million Azerbaijanis to their homes and the reintegration of liberated lands and, in line with the Tripartite Declaration of 10 November 2020, takes consistent and large-scale measures to ensure sustainable peace, security and prosperity in the region.”
