Author: Carmen Resino.
This evening at 7 p.m., journalist and writer Julia Sáez Angulo presents the book Amazonia. Historia de otra conquista (Amazonia. History of another conquest), by the Madrid playwright Carmen Resino.
The book is a novel of ideas and passion set in the viceroyalty of Peru during the last years of the 18th century, when the revolution in France and the birth of the United States gave rise to the first independence movements in Spanish America, which achieved their goals during the reign of Fernando VII. José Arístides Avendaño, who belonged to a family of landowners in the upper Amazon, a lover of progress, enlightened thought and the ideas of revolutionary France, wanted independence and freedom for Spanish America. But his ideals come into conflict when he falls in love with Doña Soledad Bermúdez, the most beautiful Creole of the viceroyalty.
