Santiago Miralles Huete, until a few days ago Spain’s ambassador to Singapore, will head the Diplomatic School after the summer, The Diplomat has learned from reliable sources.
Miralles will take up the post once the appointment of the current director of the Diplomatic School, Alberto Antón, as ambassador to Belgium becomes a reality. The Government, as The Diplomat has already advanced, is waiting for the Belgian authorities to give their approval for the appointment of Alberto Antón, who has been at the head of the Diplomatic School since February 2021.
The future director of the Diplomatic School has been ambassador to Singapore from 3 December 2018 to 11 December, when he was replaced by Mercedes Alonso Frayle. Previously, he was Spanish ambassador to Mozambique from 2012 to 2015 and director of Casa América from 2015 to 2018.
Santiago Miralles has a long professional career, having entered the Diplomatic Career in 1990 and, since then, he has held various posts abroad, including second posts in the Spanish Embassies in South Korea, El Salvador, Tunisia and the Netherlands; and the Consulate General in Hannover.
In addition, he worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Presidency of the Government and was head of the Cabinets of the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
