“After two years of pandemic, it is a great pleasure to finally be able to celebrate with you the enthronement of Prince Albert II,” said the Ambassador of Monaco, Catherine Fautrier-Rousseau, at the event held on Tuesday at the Génova Financial Centre to mark the occasion.
The Monegasque ambassador began with an emotional tribute to the victims of the COVID pandemic and to “the people who are currently suffering from the disasters of the war in Ukraine. Monaco has always defended the values of peace, fraternity and respect for territoriality. Prince Albert II and his government have been in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the international community from the very beginning of this conflict”.
In a year in which numerous events are also being held to commemorate the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I, the great-grandfather of the current prince, the ambassador lamented “the current climate of global tension and instability. Albert I was a man very committed to defending the values of peace and solidarity. He was also known for his commitment to care for the environment.” Ambassador Catherine Fautrier-Rousseau recalled that it was thanks to him that the Spanish Oceanographic Institute was created, and that he was also passionate about geology and played an important role in the archaeological research of the Altamira caves, in the Cantabrian town of Santillana del Mar.
“With him, the ambassador concluded, links with Spain developed greatly and many events were organised in Madrid and Andalusia. Today, on this day, he would like us to follow his example, to share his humanism, his sense of solidarity, to show his benevolence towards our planet so that all of us in this world can have a better future and pass it on to our children”.
The reception was attended by numerous members of the Diplomatic Corps, including the ambassadors of France, Vietnam, Switzerland, Albania, North Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Thailand, Serbia, Hungary, Panama and Costa Rica, Congo, Lithuania and Slovenia, among others.
