Iberdrola Chairman Ignacio Sánchez Galán announced at the Iberdrola USA (Avangrid) Board of Directors meeting in Boston on Thursday that the Spanish company plans to invest $6 billion in the state of New York over the next three years.
The investment plan presented by the company’s distribution companies in New York to the state regulator will “accelerate the investments needed to continue improving service and promote an electricity grid that is more resilient to extreme weather events, as well as smarter to integrate the clean energy essential to meet New York’s decarbonisation goals”, Iberdrola said in a statement.
The statement said that the investments could reach 6 billion dollars over the next three years, a sum that, according to the company, would double the average investments of recent years in New York.
Iberdrola has been present in the United States for 15 years and has assets of more than 40 billion dollars in 24 states in the country, serving a population of more than 7 million people.
