On Wednesday 18 May, the Embassy of Nicaragua commemorated the 127th anniversary of the birth of General Augusto César Sandino with the screening of the biographical film, Sandino, in the Conversatory Room of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).
Leading the delegation was the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Nicaraguan Embassy, Milagros Urbina Rocha, who welcomed the attendees and in a few words, indicated “the elected nature of the post of vice-president of the country in Nicaragua, according to the Political Constitution of the Republic of Nicaragua, a sovereign and secure country at all levels”, in direct reference to the comments made about the vice-president Rosario Murillo for being the wife of President Daniel Ortega. The Nicaraguan representative also highlighted not only the figure of Sandino, but also that of Blanca Aráuz, whom the film praises as a heroine alongside the Nicaraguan general.
The film Sandino was made in 1990 and directed and written by Miguel Littin, starring Joaquim de Almeida, Kris Kristofferson, Dean Stockwell, Victoria Abril and Ángela Molina. The film is the narration of a period in the life (between 1926 and 1934) of the leader of the Nicaraguan revolution Augusto Sandino.
