The Instituto Cultural Rumano of Madrid presents tomorrow Tuesday at 7pm at the Aula Magna of the CEU San Pablo University of Madrid (c/ Julián Romea, 23) the screening of the documentary film The re-education of Pitești. The drama of a generation. With Spanish subtitles.
This is a film about the “re-education” through violence that was practised in communist Romania in the 50s – 60s in the Romanian town of Pitești, one of the most horrible psychological engineering experiments ever made, known as The Pitești Experiment. It was an attempt at re-education for the new communist reality, a project aimed at generating the new style of humanity that was needed, which began in December 1949 and ended in August 1952.
Organised in collaboration with the Chair of History “Memory and Identity” of the CEU Institute of Historical Studies, the Ángel Herrera Oria Cultural Foundation, the Memory/Argeș Foundation and under the auspices of the Romanian Embassy, the event will feature presentations by Fernando Lostao, director of the Ángel Herrera Oria Cultural Foundation; José Luis Orella, director of the Chair of History “Memory and Identity” of the CEU Institute of Historical Studies, and Ilie Popa, Prof. Titular of the University of Pitești, president of the Argeș branch of the Fundación Memoria.
