A Spanish parliamentary delegation has been participating since yesterday in Strasbourg in the seventh plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe, which will conclude today with the adoption of the final conclusions of this initiative.
The Spanish parliamentary delegation in the plenary session of the Conference is composed of the MPs Pere Joan Pons, from the Socialist Group; Pablo Hispán, from the Popular Group; Lucía Muñoz, from the Confederal Group of Unidas Podemos-En Comú Podem-Galicia En Común; and Josune Gorospe, from the Basque Group (PNV).
The session, held in the hemicycle of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, deals with the final proposals and positions adopted by the components of the European Parliament, the Council, the Commission and the national parliaments. The Future of Europe Conference kicked off in March 2020 and has involved the European institutions and citizens of the European Union.
This session also presents the position of citizens, who have been given a voice in this process with the opening of participation mechanisms through the multilingual Digital Platform that was launched in April 2021 with the aim of allowing citizens from across the EU to submit contributions to the Conference. In order to collect citizens’ proposals, the Congress and the Senate also created within the Joint Committee for the European Union a public electronic mailbox for the submission of initiatives and proposals.
The citizens’ contributions collected through the multilingual platform have been discussed in several European citizens’ panels, which have drawn up 88 recommendations on “the EU in the world/migration” and on “a stronger economy, social justice and employment/education, culture, youth and sport/digital transformation”.
The proposals of the European and national citizens’ panels were dealt with by the plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe held on March 11-12, 2022 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. During the plenary session on March 25-26, held in Strasbourg, the Conference plenary and nine working groups began drafting final proposals on all topics, and during the sixth plenary session, held on April 8-9, the chairs and spokespersons of nine working groups presented concrete draft proposals. At the seventh session, which concludes today, the final conclusions will be drawn.
