The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced yesterday that the regional government will award the International Medal of the Community of Madrid to the president of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, “in recognition of his defense of the freedom of all, especially of Europe and its people”.
This is what Díaz Ayuso told the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in the framework of her official trip to Brussels to meet with different community leaders, according to the Autonomous Community. The International Medal of the Community of Madrid was created in 2017 in recognition of the institutional work of representatives of foreign countries and leaders of international organizations.
On the other hand, the plenary session of the Madrid City Council yesterday approved, with the only vote against Vox, the withdrawal of the Golden Keys of the capital to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, which were given to him in 2006 by the then mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón. Vox councilman Javier Ortega Smith rejected this decision with the argument that the Keys were given to the Russian people, not to Putin, but the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, responded -in declarations to Telecinco- that “the regulations establish that the delivery is to the head of state” and, therefore, “every time a different one comes, even if he is from the same country, they are given to him”.
