The Ambassador of Italy, Riccardo Guariglia, has awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMRI), in the rank of Officer, to the Chief Commissioner Eugenio Pereiro Blanco, head of the General Commissariat of Information of the Spanish Police, among other reasons for his collaboration in the arrest of several members of mafia organisations.
In a ceremony held last Monday in the Amboage Palace, headquarters of the Embassy, Riccardo Guariglia recalled how Commissioner Pereiro Blanco “has always shown special attention and sensitivity to understand the seriousness of the threat of Italian mafia organisations, allowing the capture of dangerous fugitives of the ‘Ndrangheta and the Camorra”.
He also stressed that the commissioner has favoured “the reinforcement – he said – of collaboration with our police forces at the delicate moment of the disembarkation of immigrants on the Italian coasts”.
Guariglia also said that Pereiro Blanco “has strengthened existing relations, representing for our country a sure reference point for collaboration between police forces”.
On the same Monday, the ambassador also presented the decoration of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (OMRI), in the rank of Officer, to the Chief of Police of the Principality of Andorra, Jordi Moreno Blázquez.
Ambassador Guariglia stressed that Director Moreno Blázquez “is an excellent manager, has distinguished himself by having committed himself throughout his professional career to the fight against crime” and “has always ensured a rapid and fruitful collaboration with our country thanks to his sense of duty and unconditional attachment to the institutions”.
At the same ceremony, Inspector Jaume Antich Vallmitjana, head of the Anti-Money Laundering, Organised Crime and Gambling Unit of the Police of the Principality of Andorra, was also decorated with the Order of the Star of Italy, in the rank of Knight. The inspector has carried out numerous operational missions with the Italian police forces.
