The Diplomat
The Spanish government yesterday reiterated its “firm” commitment to Ukraine on the 30th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The anniversary coincides with a time of great international tension due to the build-up of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, which is why the Spanish government emphasises in its communiqué its commitment “to the defence of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, within its internationally recognised borders”.
In addition, the Spanish government expresses its satisfaction with the three decades of “solid political relations”, promoted, above all, through the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Spain and Ukraine signed in 1996.
The large Ukrainian community living in Spain,” says the communiqué, “is proof of the intensity and dynamism on which our relations are based, which we will continue to promote in all areas to our mutual benefit.
Likewise, Spain also reiterates its “full support” for the agenda of political and economic reforms that Ukraine continues to carry out, which “represent,” it says, “an essential pillar for the modernisation and prosperity of the country”.
Finally, the Spanish government expresses “its wishes for peace, well-being and prosperity for the friendly people of Ukraine”.
