The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held yesterday a working breakfast with the American Business Council, a business association founded in 1988 that integrates subsidiaries in Spain of American multinationals.
During the meeting, held at the InterContinental Hotel in Madrid, the head of the Executive praised “the good progress” of the Spanish economy and assured that the GDP would grow by 5% in 2021, as was made public yesterday. He also highlighted the employment data of the latest EPA, with 20.18 million employed and the unemployment rate falling to 13.3%, returning the labor market to levels prior to the financial crisis.
Sánchez also highlighted the “historic opportunity” that the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan represents, both in terms of the structural reforms that are being carried out and the millions of dollars in investments that are already being made. In the first half of 2022, he said, it is expected to open around 200 calls for more than 22,000 million euros.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General for Economic Affairs and G20, Manuel de la Rocha, and the new U.S. Ambassador, Julissa Reynoso, as well as senior executives of major U.S. companies, led by the President of the American Business Council, Miguel Carmelo, and its Secretary General, Javier Aparicio.
Finally, the Chief Executive acknowledged the “important role” that U.S. companies have played in Spain’s economic growth and urged the attendees to redouble their confidence in our country.
