The Diplomat
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Madrid issued a message on its Twitter account late on Monday afternoon, in which it reproaches Spain for distinguishing itself in its desire to contribute to the increase in NATO forces in the face of the crisis in Ukraine.
In its message, the diplomatic representation, which has been headed by Ambassador Yuri Korchagin for nine and a half years, said, in reference to the tense situation on the border between Russia and Ukraine, although without citing it: “We have proposed de-escalation and in return we have received an increased NATO military presence on Russia’s borders, and, as experts point out, Spain is particularly distinguished by its desire to contribute“.
The words in the Embassy’s tweet did not provoke any reaction from the Spanish government, whose spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, limited herself to replying, when questioned on Tuesday at the Council of Ministers press conference: “Spain is a country of peace and therefore what we are defending is that peace is everyone’s task and we are all important in achieving this goal”.
