The Fundación Scherzo, in collaboration with the Compañía de Conciertos La Filarmónica, kicks off its season next Saturday 15th Jenuary at 7.30 p.m. in the Symphonic Hall of the Auditorio Nacional de Música with the return of the great Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires to the programme of the Great Performers Series.
For this unique evening -as it also marks the return of the performer after the injury she suffered last October- Pires has prepared a programme full of dreamlike and colourful music that will transport the audience to a world between the dreamlike and the earthly. The music of Debussy and Schubert opens up a chromatic palette capable of exacerbating the deepest feelings of the human being.
From the French master, Pires will perform Deux arabesques L. 66 and the Suite Bergamasque, a work that contains one of the composer’s best-known pieces: Moonlight. From F. Schubert, he will perform the Sonata for piano in B flat major no. 21, D. 960, the composer’s last sonata, which, for many, is the pinnacle of the Romantic sonata.
