The Spain-Peru Council Foundation presented this past Wednesday its 2021 Activities Report, which reveals that, “despite the restrictions due to the pandemic,” the institution maintained throughout this year “a high level of meetings and events to strengthen the relationship between Spain and Peru.”
“The pandemic forced the Spain-Peru Council Foundation in 2020 to make a 180-degree turn in its activity,” the Foundation stated in a press release. “2021 meant the combination of both realities, but with a renewed impetus: in the last half of the year, its number of activities doubled and it recovered face-to-face attendance in most of the events,” it continued.
An example of this, according to the Annual Report, was the signing of the Collaboration Agreement with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Lima, which took place on September 27 at the headquarters of Uría Menéndez (patron of the Foundation) and was attended by the presidents of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Lima, Alberto Almendres, and of the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, Pedro Miras. The collaboration between the two entities dates back to 2019.
The signing ceremony was attended by the then Ambassador of Peru in Spain, Claudio de la Puente, who was dismissed in mid-October by the new President of Peru, Pedro Castillo. The diplomatic representation has been left in the hands of a Chargé d’Affaires until a new ambassador is appointed.
On the other hand, the Council Foundation held its Board of Trustees meeting on November 30 at the Casa América headquarters. The State Secretary for Ibero-America, the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Juan Fernández Trigo, participated in the meeting, where he also accepted his position as a new trustee. In addition, the president of the Foundation, Pedro Miras, welcomed the rest of the new trustees: the General Director for Ibero-America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xavier Martí; the director of Casa América, Enrique Ojeda; the director of Institutional Relations of Indra, Alfonso Tena; and the director of the Elecnor Foundation, Jorge Ballester.
