The Diplomat
The Council of Ministers yesterday appointed Juan Ignacio Sell as Spain’s ambassador to Nigeria, for whom the Nigerian authorities had already given the go-ahead more than two months ago.
Sell was born in Madrid in 1963 and has been a member of the diplomatic service since 1989. Between 2012 and 2017 he was ambassador to South Africa, with accreditation in Madagascar, Lesotho, Mauritius and Comoros, and from 2017 to the present year he served as second-in-command at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat. He was also head of the Cabinet of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Trinidad Jiménez and José Manuel García-Margallo and was posted to the Spanish diplomatic representations in Algeria, El Salvador, Brazil, the United States and Russia.
Juan Sell’s appointment, announced by The Diplomat, has been expected for some time, as has Raimundo Robredo’s appointment as ambassador to South Africa, which has not yet materialised, despite having been approved by the South African authorities months ago.
