Until 18 December, on the occasion of the World Year of the Arabic Language, 2021, and the day dedicated annually to this language, 18 December, the Autonomous University of Madrid, Casa Árabe and CIHAR are organising, together with the Diplomatic Mission of the League of Arab States in Madrid, the international meeting The teaching of the Arabic language in Spain and Europe, to be held today at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (Dean’s Office Meeting Room) of the UAM and tomorrow at the UAM and Casa Árabe, and the Ceremony of poetry, reading and music in homage to the Arabic language, on 18 December at Casa Árabe.
For the first time, the international meeting will bring together representatives of institutions dedicated to the teaching of the Arabic language in Spain from different fields: universities, educational institutions, Official Language Schools, private academies and civil society, to jointly analyse and assess the current situation of the teaching of this language on the European continent in general and, above all, in Spain. To this end, a group of Arab, European and Spanish specialists in the teaching of Arabic as a foreign language will address the teaching systems, the modes of cooperation between administrations, institutions and public and private teaching centres, the relevant ways to promote the dissemination of the Arabic language and culture in Spain and the European environment, and to give greater visibility to the Arab cultural elements in our continent. The programme and timetable for these conferences can be consulted on Casa Árabe’s website.
