The European Commission yesterday approved the disbursement of the first tranche of the €10 billion recovery fund to Spain, the Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen announced.
“It will be the first EU country to receive a payment, worth 10 billion, once the other member states authorise it,” the head of the EU executive explained in a brief message in Spanish on her Twitter profile.
Spain was the first EU country to make a formal request to receive the first disbursement, and was able to do so after signing with the EU executive the technical document that stipulates how the fulfilment of each commitment is to be verified.
The 10 billion tranche will join the 9 billion that the EU executive anticipated in mid-August and which was not subject to conditions.
