The Spanish Cultural Center in Bata has hosted a training cycle to strengthen human and institutional capacities in the fight against the main endemic diseases in Equatorial Guinea.

The cycle was organized by the Carlos III Health Institute between November 25 and 30 and is part of a project to strengthen the management and control of endemic and communicable diseases financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

According to the Spanish Embassy in Malabo, the project will be implemented for 18 months in close collaboration with the Equatoguinean Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and is aimed at strengthening human and institutional capacities in the care and control of three major endemic diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, which constitute a major public health problem.

The Spanish Ambassador, Alfonso Barnuevo, highlighted the importance of this type of actions undertaken by different Spanish institutions to strengthen the Equatoguinean health system. Within the framework of this grant, Spanish Cooperation continues its support to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in disease control, through the experience of key Spanish institutions, such as the Spanish Foundation for International Cooperation, Health and Social Policy (FCSAI) and the Carlos III Health Institute, which have been working closely with Equatorial Guinea for thirty years.
