On 9 December at 7.30 p.m., the Foro Cultural de Austria presents a round table discussion at the Museo Thyssen in Madrid entitled Dalí-Freud: An Obsession, on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna (28.01.2022 – 29.05.2022).
Taking part in this presentation are Guillermo Solana, Artistic Director of the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza; Christian Ebner, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria; Stella Rollig, Director of the Belvedere Museum in Vienna; Jaime Brihuega, curator of the exhibition; Juan Manuel Bonet, art historian; Gustavo Torres, psychoanalyst; and Montse Aguer, Director of the Dalí Museums, Gala-Dalí Foundation.
The round table will analyse the important influence of Sigmund Freud on the work of the painter Salvador Dalí. Trained in his native Catalonia, Dalí became deeply interested in Freud’s writings during his stay at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid between 1923 and 1927, a period in which, together with Lorca and Buñuel, he also became acquainted with the French surrealist movement. In the following years, Freud became a fundamental point of reference in his artistic maturation, his incorporation into Surrealism and the development of his paranoiac-critical method, his main contribution to the French movement.
